Let the voting begin!
Written by Dawn on December 3, 2007 – 12:25 am -The polls are up and ready. Please remember these things:
- Read the terms and conditions before you vote, please (sorry!) - see post from last night!
- Votes are based on IP and cookies.
- You may only vote ONCE per category per person in your home. No more than 5 votes per network/IP. (You will probably need to use another computer in your home; once you have voted in a particular category, you most likely only see the results and not the option to vote again while using the same computer. The ability to vote more than once from the same IP address appears to be greatly influenced by your computer and network.)
- You don’t have to vote on everything at once. You can vote for one category and come back later for the rest.
- If you click on the DOT, it will vote. If you click on the BLOG NAME, you can go to the site.
- Email us at Hsbawards @ Gmail . com (remove extra spaces) if you have any questions or problems!
- Spread the word!
With the number of categories and nominees involved, there is a definite possibility of human error in the creation of the polls, and I take full responsibility for them. Please let me know if any of the links don’t work, etc. so that I can take care of it as quickly as possible.
Don’t see all the nominees? Two nominees were removed because their blogs had been deleted and one because it isn’t a homeschool blog. Also, to remove any appearance of impropriety, the current team members have been removed from the polls and nominations list.

Um, the unschooling link appears down.
December 3rd, 2007 at 9:57 am
Which one? One of the nominees within the category? That was one of two category links that had to be corrected last night, but appears fine today.
December 3rd, 2007 at 9:58 am
works fine for me!
December 3rd, 2007 at 10:10 am
I’m still getting a not found message to this link:
http://homeschoolblogawards.com/?page_id=192
December 3rd, 2007 at 10:39 am
I get the following message when I click on the Unschooling Link:
Not Found
Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:01 am
Meg’s right. When I click on the unschooling category link above, it says “Page Not Found.” I can’t vote in that category at all.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:35 am
Okay, ladies, this is completely bizarre, but it is viewable in Mozilla Firefox and not Internet Explorer (at least that’s what happened for me). I’ll troubleshoot it and see what I find.
Thanks!
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:48 am
I’m in Firefox, not IE
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:48 am
Wait, it worked that time
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:49 am
FWIW, I’m viewing it in Firefox (on a Mac) and I get the page not found message. I notice it has a different kind of URL than the other pages–the other links all end in /the-name-of-the-category etc, but the unschooling page’s URL says /pageid=192 (something like that).
Hope that’s helpful! I’ll go check it in Safari now.
December 3rd, 2007 at 11:50 am
OK! In Safari, that page comes up fine. Just FYI!
December 3rd, 2007 at 12:01 pm
It’s working for me now in Firefox as well.
Although, it occurs to me–once you’ve voted, the page always loads with the current voting stats. How does someone else in your family vote with the same IP? (Rules say up to five votes per IP, for individual blog-reading voters within a family.)
December 3rd, 2007 at 12:02 pm
By the way, by “working for me now” in the comment above, I meant the page is loading–not that it allowed me to vote twice. LOL!!
December 3rd, 2007 at 12:04 pm
Whew! Thanks for your patience. I said I was taking responsibility for those polls, didn’t I?
After about 2 minutes of posting the link to last year’s polls (yes, I am only human and the poll titles are the same from year except for the 2007 on the end), you can now vote trouble-free in the Best Unschooling or Eclectic Homeschool Blog category.
December 3rd, 2007 at 12:16 pm
Thank you for your patience as we are fixing these problems. We should have everything fixed soon.

I am i amazed at the great blogs on these list.. I was very surprised though that my favorite blog “Real Learning” was not nominated:-(
December 3rd, 2007 at 3:07 pm
OK, I’m sure I am just overlooking the obvious, but when does voting end? Thanks!
December 3rd, 2007 at 6:57 pm
I agree with Amanda, I too am amazed at the great blogs on this list. I was also surprised by “Real Learning” not making the list..Oh well
December 4th, 2007 at 1:02 am
Real Learning is one of my favorites, too, and I was surprised by its absence. But it got me thinking– perhaps people have nominated it in different categories, but there weren’t three people nominating it in the *same* category, so it didn’t make the nominee list. Is that possible?

Homeschool Blog Awards…
The Homeschool Blog Awards are back in full swing and the voting started earlier today. Get on over and vote for your favorite homeschool blog……
December 4th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
Yes, the blog had to be nominated in the same category more than twice. We started out with more than 3 times, but we changed it to more than twice across the board for everyone because it eliminated too many - our lists were too short. It is possible that if someone was nominated in two different categories, they did not make this list, though. Sorry! We had nearly 1,000 nominations… so it would have been INSANE at voting time if we had let everyone with ONE nomination be on the pages. It would have drug the awards out until next March!

Somebody above said “Although, it occurs to me–once you’ve voted, the page always loads with the current voting stats. How does someone else in your family vote with the same IP? (Rules say up to five votes per IP, for individual blog-reading voters within a family.)”
I have the same question. There are 4 of us who could be voting, but once the first one submits her vote, we just get the statistics, not an opportunity to vote again. Is there something we’re doing wrong?
December 6th, 2007 at 12:24 am
**There are 4 of us who could be voting, but once the first one submits her vote, we just get the statistics, not an opportunity to vote again**
I am hoping someone can explain this as well. I assured the blog readers in our home (more than 5 - but only 2 of the kids really want to vote for blogs) that they could vote for THEIR FAVORITES after I voted - because of reading that you could vote 5 times from the same IP - they can’t. All the computers in our home show stats instead of the voting option (and I only voted once on one of the computers). Bad Mom. LOL
December 6th, 2007 at 4:56 pm
I have been taking a few days to vote, so I can seriously look at all the nominations thoroughly, and now I can’t remember which ones I haven’t voted for. is there a way to find out?
December 7th, 2007 at 12:10 am
I’m not able to vote at all. One family member says she was able to vote from one computer, but I can’t vote from mine, and another family member cannot vote from hers. That dot- is just a dot for us. no link.
By the way, I REALLY appreciate all the work y’all have put in. Volunteers should get a prize of their own, I think. It’s very generous of you all to donate your time and head space this way.
December 9th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
You need to check on the encouragement award category for cheating. The first place blog (angelfire) has mentioned some stinky business. Just check on things for all fairness.
December 11th, 2007 at 3:40 pm
I don’t understand that last comment. I have not cheated! Please do not impugne my integrity!
Thank you!
Sallie

This is the Dawn on the HSBA site (not the “Dawn” of the earlier comment). For the record, from analysis of the polls records there is no evidence of cheating by Sallie (angelfire); however, the earlier comment which implied it was left without a valid email address. Anonymous comments or those without a valid email address cannot be taken into consideration.
